The students played "I Spy Shapes" today. They needed to find 2D and 3D shapes around the room. Above, they found a cylinder (Wipes container), sphere (globe) and rectangle (window). They recorded their results in their math journals on a t-chart.

Earlier this week we made 2D/3D flipbooks. The students drew the 2D shape on the top. Under the flap, they put which 3D shapes have sides shaped as that 2D shape.
Click on the pictures to see the flip books up close that they were working on. We read the read aloud, Slowly Does It and discussed the lesson they learned, the setting, and the characters.
We have been learning about rocks, so today the kids sorted their rocks that they have collected from playground and home. They sorted by dark, light, smooth, and rough. They worked in small groups to sort and then filled out a chart for independent practice. Yesterday we used this book to discuss what a fable is. The students then did a Character flip book and wrote what lesson they learned on the back. My students really enjoy to draw, so this activity was a great learning activity for them. Check out my Wonderful Work and Perfect Project page to see some of their work! Hands on Fun with marshmellows and toothpicks. We were discussing 2D and 3D shapes in math today. The students created 3D shapes.
Today we did story maps of the Ugly Duckling in class today. We used the "Summary Sam", an idea that I found on www.reallygoodstuff.com. They have a lot of great ideas, posters, and materials for the classroom. See this link for Summary Sam http://search.reallygoodstuff.com/search? Tasug=&w=story+sam&Search.x=0&Search.y=0. I will posting items needed in our classroom on http://www.donorschoose.org/Pattonsclass. Please visit this site to see what our classroom needs. Any little bit helps and
donorschoose matches all contributions! The first project wll be a new laptop and tablet to enhance literacy and math skills in the classroom. I believe these items will motivate my students to take their learning to a higher level!! Thanks in advance! |
